I think the main reason to not take away the award, is that Richard Dawkins in 1996 and Richard Dawkins in 2021 are not necessarily the same person. People change, for the better but also worse. If Dawkins in 1996 was deserving based on his work and the contenders at the time, then that’s what the award is for, and it doesn’t matter that he moved away from being someone who was worth awarding. I share your feelings, Sam. Maybe you’re a little triggered, but I agree with you on it all. We, people who care about others, try not to let it all out, but it’s hard sometimes. And I think it’s OK. We can’t put other people as a priority. Not all the time. Now Dawkins is pretty intelligent, but not intelligent enough. Society is shaped in such a way that makes it specially tough on people like you, Sam: super intelligent, sensitive, who want a fair and just world for everyone.
