I think the main reason to not take away the award, is that Richard Dawkins in 1996 and Richard Dawkins in 2021 are not necessarily the same person. People change, for the better but also worse. If Dawkins in 1996 was deserving based on his work and the contenders at the time, then that’s what the award is for, and it doesn’t matter that he moved away from being someone who was worth awarding. My first Ask an Atheist. Wow. Sam Mulvey sounds like a spoiled and bitter narcissist. Especially all after 1:08:30. Throwing shade on Dawkins, deserved or not, for not “shutting up”? Telling academia to “go to hell” – what hell?? Sam thinks the Atheist community is making a mockery of themselves – this broadcast is part of the problem. Go out that Atheist door that you are looking for. Start AAaAaA: Ask an Angry and Arrogant Atheist.

If this is your first Ask an Atheist, I suspect you’re getting precisely what you wanted when you clicked play. I hope your engineered offendedness was worth the effort.

Meanwhile, I’ve already spent a decade being told that I’m arrogant because I don’t like someone’s Golden Boy. I suspect the statistical increase by adding one additional Golden Boy will be negligible.
