Ask an Atheist with Sam Mulvey

Frequently Asked Questions

Who are you guys?

Check out bios of cast and crew.

What’s Peggy’s Challenge?

AaA costs money to produce. Peggy is a listener who feels it important to give atheists a voice on air in the face of a multitude of religious programs and rhetoric in the media. She encouraged others who feel similarly to step and contribute to keep the show going. We love our fans and listeners to meet the challenge of financially supporting secular views in the media.

When listeners contribute, where does the money go?

Contributions and money from events and fundraisers goes toward production. This includes but is not limited to costs of leasing air time, equipment upgrades, building our own studio, and travel to/from recording events.

Are you a nonprofit?

AaA operates as an LLC.

Do you guys get paid?

No, at this time all those who work on AaA are volunteers.

Why run as a for-profit if you don’t get paid?

A number of reasons, including fear. The fear part is easy to explain: Churches and religious organizations get a pass on breaking the law that atheists do not. We decided to run as a for-profit so that our ability to speak would be as unencumbered as possible. It also makes it easier to get the show on other commercial stations. Right now, an LLC is the best fit for what we want to do with the show.

Are there job/internship possibilities with AaA?

AaA production is complex and multi-faceted. If you’re interested in learning an aspect of production including editing, producing commercials, writing, maintaining communication, hosting, and more, send us an email. If you are under 18 we welcome your enthusiasm but need a parent’s permission.

Can I be on AaA?

If you have a compelling story, are an expert in an area of science, have a project to talk about, or something else you think fits in with the show, send us an email!

Can my group/company advertise on your show?

Yes! Ads help pay for about 30% of our costs. Check out our advertising page for more info.

How can I meet you?

Become a member of the Humanists of Washington—Secular South Sound meetup! Most events related to Ask An Atheist are posted there. You can also send an email.
