While indeed it is nowhere near as good as the other five original crew Star Trek movies, I’m surprised that it isn’t more of a hit around here. After all, it’s Captain Kirk’s skepticism that saves the day at the end, and leads to the delightful quote, “What does God need with a starship?”
Star Trek V: The Final Frontier, that is.
For Rich:

I think The distinction you are making between cult and religion, where a cult doesn’t allow you contact with the outside world, is only true because of the massive scope of religions. Religions want to do the same thing, prevent any and all contact with the outside world, but their size makes that goal next to impossible to achieve. It’s easy to prevent your followers from experiencing the outside world if there is only a couple of hundred people in the religion. It’s a lot more difficult when your followers make up 80 percent of the population.

Sweden doesn’t have a state church. I got abolished 11 years ago.
Currently my favorite podcast. I’ve been sharing them (and LAF) on my tumblr, faithlessinseattle.tumblr.com.
