Jessie Bering is the author of “The Belief Instinct,” a book exploring the psychological and developmental aspects of religious belief. Last month, his book “Why is the Penis Shaped Like That? And Other Reflections on Being Human,” hit the shelves– a collection of essays dealing with subjects including evolution, free will, human sexuality, paraphilia, and cannibalism.
We talk about his books, psychology and evolutionary psychology, and his unique (though not necessarily incompatible) view of atheism and the atheism visibility movement.
