I live in Ontario and I am well versed in the enigma of publicly funded Catholic schools in this Province. Historically they were a compromise in the act of union between Upper Canada (English) and Lower Canada (French). I won’t bore you with the lengthy details but suffice it to say the Catholic system that parallels the secular system is a relic of this union that occurred decades before Canada became a country in 1867.
