As the world is focused on Benghazi and the politically-motivated murder of Ambassador Chris Stevens under the cover of an anti-Islam YouTube video, new calls for national and international blasphemy laws are being heard throughout the world. Sam Mulvey gives an overview of use and abuse of blasphemy laws in places from Ireland to Pakistan, their surprising support, and their destructive effects on society.
Additionally, Sam will give an overview of the Atheism Visibility Movement in Washington State, and underline how strong organization can not only help the movement, but help the fight against blasphemy laws internationally.
Biography of Presenter:
Sam Mulvey is a host and producer of Ask an Atheist, an early member and occasional organizer for Tacoma Atheists, a former board member of Seattle Atheists, and is a present board member of Humanists of Washington. He is originally from the Chicago area, spending time in Phoenix, Arizona before deciding to make Tacoma his home. In addition to atheism and humanism, Sam has spoken about open source software and community media.
